It may have a reputation as a hedonistic paradise of world-famous clubs and all night parties, but Ibiza is an island for every occasion. If you’re after a chilled-out getaway beneath the Mediterranean sunshine, you can fill your days with sunbathing, exploring secluded coves and beautiful landscapes and delving into ancient towns and villages, before sipping on a cocktail in a chic bar as the sun goes down. Meanwhile the island is also great for families, with a staggering amount of idyllic beaches, as well as waterparks and water sports to keep everyone entertained. The area around Platja d’en Bossa, the longest beach on the island, sums up this diversity – cool beach bars provide a taste of Ibiza nightlife at any time of day while the vast stretch of golden sand is a haven for sun-seekers, families and adrenaline junkies alike.
Just a few steps back from the Platja d’en Bossa seafront, the Migjorn Ibiza Suites & Spa could hardly be more perfectly located. On this occasion we were checking in for a family holiday in the sun with the kids in tow, although this is a hotel which is every bit as versatile as the magnificent island itself. With its luxurious suites, swanky Mediterranean restaurant and serene spa, this would make a quiet and cosy couple’s retreat, while a sun lounger beside one of the superb outdoor pools is an ideal spot for clubbers to clear their heads after a heavy night. Whatever the occasion, every guest is treated to brilliant four-star facilities, impeccably friendly service and some elegant modern style which lends the whole place an air of exclusivity and sophistication.
The half board option proved ideal for a family break, with minimal fuss and some spectacular cuisine. Indeed, this a worthwhile option for anybody, since you could never tire of eating at the magnificent Restaurant Unic. After a leisurely aperitif on the sunny roof terrace, every night we were blown away by the quality of the cuisine, based on the wealth and diversity of local produce. Every dish was dazzlingly creative, presented like a work of art, while the sumptuous flavours left everyone with a smile on their face. After inevitably overindulging a little, the spacious suites provide a luxurious retreat to rest your weary head. They come with plenty of space even for large families and groups, even complete with their own kitchens, while the facilities leave nothing to be desired, including free Wi-Fi, iPod docks and stunning bathrooms.
When it comes to filling your days, the Migjorn Ibiza and the Platja d’en Bossa resort have everything you could need. The sights of Ibiza Town, the island’s capital, are just a couple of kilometres away, including a charming whitewashed old quarter, a hilltop cathedral and a pretty harbour. Even closer to home, the beach itself is an idyllic spot to lay back in the sun or try out water sports such as diving, jet-skiing or windsurfing, and this is where we spent most of our time, with the kids absolutely delighted with the array of activities on offer. If the stroll down to the soft sandy beach seems too much, the hotel offers two marvellous outdoor pools, where you can soak in the sun on a lounger or sip a cool cocktail on a canopied bed. With all this on offer, our one regret was being too busy to try out the tranquil spa, which boasts some superb facilities and a comprehensive range of treatments. But I suppose when you stumble across a hotel as unforgettable as this, it’s always good to have an excuse to come back!
